Is There Such Thing as Quick Weight Loss?

For those of us who struggle with our weight, at some point reality comes crashing into view-there is no such thing as quick weight loss. There never has been and there never will be. There is no diet, pill, food or potion that will help us lose weight rapidly and permanently.

Fad diets don’t work for long. Even with prescription medication or extreme surgery, smart eating and the importance of exercise quickly become the name of the game and the only path for long-term success.

It is not easy. People who are naturally slender don’t get it. Unlike overcoming a dependency on tobacco, alcohol or drugs by giving these things up completely, food is essential for survival and is a permanent part of daily life.

Accepting this reality is sobering. Like children, we want to eat as much as we want of whatever we want, whenever we want!

A balanced diet which includes lots of non-starchy vegetables and water, limited servings of fruit, whole grains, dairy products, proteins and a bit of fat is always the best approach. It should promote an average loss of not more than two pounds per week.

While an excellent, healthy eating and exercise plan are the foundations for weight loss success, the ability to stick with your plan and make the thousands of tiny, 60-second daily choices that will carry you to your goal matters as much, or almost more, than the plan itself.

Quick weight loss is possible if you consider quick to be a matter of months – not a matter of days or even weeks.
