The Real Reason Almost All Diets Fail: Part 6 – 7 Ways to Permanent Dieting Success 2

3. Stay Strong Mentally
We covered this briefly in the first part of this series. Dieting is more mental than physical. In fact, just about the entire battle is mental. So you need to stay strong mentally in order to succeed.

Part of staying strong mentally is having a “mantra” that you repeat to yourself whenever you think you might “cheat” on your diet.

Your mantra should be two or three sentences that remind you of your dieting goal, while also reminding you that it’s okay to fail once in a while as long as you get right back the diet. Your mantra should also incorporate a reminder that overcoming challenges will make you stronger and help you in the future.

4. Get Support
It’s much easier to accomplish anything with help. This is especially true with dieting. So get at least one person who will diet with you or at least follow you as you diet.

Make this person aware of your goals – both the smaller goals and your ultimate goal. Also, let them know every step of your plan. That way you’ll be more accountable and have someone who can help you every step of the way.

5. Commit Fully
If you want to be successful then you have to commit fully to your diet. You have be completely willing to do what it takes to lose weight, and you also have to be committed to improving your physical and mental self.

In order to fully commit to your diet you first have to make sure the diet is right for you. This means you have to take your own life into account when choosing a diet. To just assume (as so many people do) that if a diet works for a friend, family member, or co-worker that it will work for you. Carefully choose a diet that you can believe in and commit to fully.

Once you choose a diet then you need to make losing weight a way of life – your way of life. And that should include physical activity as well.

Here are a few tips for how you can become more active:

Walk a half hour a day every single day
Do this without exception. There is no excuse for not walking at least 30 minutes every day.

Stretch Everyday
After you walk for thirty minutes you need to stretch your entire body. This will keep your muscles loose so that you are much less likely to become injured.

Suck in Your Belly
You can do this pretty much anywhere at pretty much anytime. Suck in your belly at your belly button and also squeeze your butt. Imagine that you’re pulling on a really tight pair of jeans. This will strengthen your abs and improve your posture.

Say no to elevators and escalators
This is a very simple habit you can adopt that will make a huge difference in the long run. Whenever you have a choice of taking stairs or an elevator or escalator, choose to take the stairs. Also, save yourself of trying to find a good parking spot when you go to the store or anywhere else. Park farther away, save your patience and help yourself by walking more.

6. Stay Busy
There’s an old religious saying that goes, “The devil finds work for idle hands.”

Well, you know what? Food finds its way into idle hands as well. Therefore, you always want to stay as busy as possible.

Obviously you will need down time when you’re relaxing, so here are a few tips to keep your hands busy and/or your mouth busy:

Play video games instead of watching television.

  • Keep a stress ball in your pocket and use it whenever you have the chance and/or whenever you feel bored and want to eat.
  • Use the computer instead of watching television.
  • Chew gum.
  • Have healthy and safe sex. (Being sexually satisfied will go a long way in keeping your appetite for food satisfied.)

Along with staying busy, you also want to make sure you get plenty of sleep at night. This means you should get between seven and eight hours. Not only will the proper amount of sleep make you healthier overall, it will also give you enough energy during the day so that your body doesn’t crave sugary food in order to simply keep going.

7. Make it Part of Your Life… Forever!
Losing the weight is one thing, keeping it off for good is entirely different. If you want to keep the weight off then you need to make sure you continue to do the things that allowed you to lose the weight in the first place. Therefore, you need to commit to eating better and living better for your entire life.

What exactly does this mean? Well, it means a change in your entire mindset. It means constantly assessing and reassessing your plans and your goals. It means committing to losing weight and keeping it off for the rest of your life.

This may seem like too large of a task. But it actually makes everything easier if you look at it the right way.

If you’re in a rush to lose weight, it may seem impossible to accomplish your goals. You may very well set impossible milestones that you won’t be able to meet. This will lead to frustration, feeling bad about yourself, and quitting the diet altogether.

But if you take your time, set very realistic goals, and then put the time in to reach those goals and to learn how to reach those goals, then you will have a great chance at being successful.

The one key to losing the weight and keeping the weight off is constantly updating your goals and your plans. Your goals and plans should be updated as you find what works and doesn’t work, and they should also be updated as you reach your goals.

View your diet as a marathon rather than a sprint. You want to be very consistent with your habits, and you also want to make sure diet in a way that will become a part of your life for the rest of your life.
